This is the wine that will change your mind about Merlot. Since I first tried Merryvale’s Starmont Merlot I’ve been a big fan.
The 2005 Starmont Merlot is the vintage I’m currently drinking. It’s 99% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Sauvignon from grapes grown in several Napa Valley vineyards. The wine is aged 23 months in French oak.
The wine has notes of ripe raspberries and red cherries. Flavors of herbs, cedar and vanilla round out the full and complex taste. It’s velvety on the tongue and has a long, lingering finish. It’s an all-around tasty and well-balanced wine.
The Starmont Merlot goes with a variety of food, from soups and pastas to chicken and lamb dishes.
The 2005 Merryvale Starmont Merlot retails for around $25. Visit Merryvale.com for a look at their other great tasting wines.
