The Edna Lewis Foundation, an organization dedicated to honoring, preserving and nurturing African American culinary heritage and culture, will be hosting a weekend of events in April to honor the memory of Chef Darryl E. Evans.
Chef Evans was the former executive chef of the City Club of Buckhead and a three-time recipient of the American Culinary Chef of the Year award. He passed away on February 26th, 2014 at the age of 52.
Chef Evans began his career in 1983 as a chef’s apprentice with the American Culinary Federation at the Cherokee Town & Country Club, and went on to lead a number of fine dining establishments and cook a variety of cuisines. He will be remembered as one of the premiere African American chefs, with a local and global fan base.
Chef Evans was a board member of the Edna Lewis Foundation and one of the participating chefs at the 2nd annual Edna Lewis Foundation Celebration Dinner held last April. He delighted diners with his thyme & rosemary crusted pheasant breast.
On Saturday, April 12th, join family, friends, former mentees and co-workers to pay tribute to Chef Evans. The Wine and Tasting Reception and Reflection will be held at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Tucker, Georgia from 2pm to 5pm. A team of eight chefs from across the country will prepare dishes and desserts. The event costs $35 per person.
On Sunday, April 13th, the 3rd annual Edna Lewis Foundation Celebration will celebrate the birthday of Lewis and the life of Chef Evans. Following an hors d’oeuvres reception guests will enjoy a five-course dinner prepared by talented regional chefs. The evening begins at 6:30pm with dinner at 8:00pm, will also be held at Le Cordon Bleu, and costs $125 per person.
Net proceeds from the events will establish the Chef Darryl E. Evans Culinary Scholarship for aspiring culinary students who plan to further their education at a licensed or accredited culinary school. The awards will be granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability or national origin.
